What is a cataract?
A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s natural lens, which develops gradually and causes blurred, dimmed or glare-affected vision. It is very common with age and treated with a straightforward, highly successful operation.
What the procedure involves
Under local anaesthetic, the clouded lens is gently removed and replaced with a clear intraocular lens chosen for your eye. The procedure usually takes around 20 minutes per eye and you go home the same day.
Lens options
A monofocal lens gives excellent distance vision. Toric lenses correct astigmatism, and premium lenses can reduce your dependence on glasses. Ms Urbaneja will discuss which best suits your eyes.
Recovery
Most people notice clearer vision within a few days. You’ll be given drops and a follow-up appointment to check healing.
